The street in my subdivision is full of cracks. Left unattended to over time, that area is no longer able provide the support intended for the infrastructure. While studying the cracks one day I realized how similar the issue was to mental health. Question is, what is the process to repair the cracks in your foundation to build a better you.
Because the damage to the street wasn’t recognized and taken care of earlier, it has continued to deteriorate leading to additional cracks. This can often happen to us too. It’s critical for one to maintain a healthy mental state and when needed, take time to repair the cracks.
Now granted, the majority of the subdivision road fine, as solid as the day it was poured and built to last a lifetime. However, throughout the quarter-mile circular drive are many spots where the foundation has become unstable.
Several weeks ago, I noticed someone had painted bright orange lines in the street to mark the cracks. While not every crack was identified, the orange lines certainly provided a visual inventory of the more prominent problem areas. The markings also provided me something to watch and think about during my early morning walks with my dog Bear.
What’s the plan here? Who is attending the street cracks and how does one go about such a repair effort? The cracks in the street had peeked now interest. And I realized, apparently the first step is to recognize and inventory the problem areas in need of repair.
Sounds familiar right? It’s usually one of the first steps in any self-help program. Create an inventory of the areas you want to focus on, things you want to improve. Then prioritize and take the steps necessary to repair the cracks in your personal foundation to build a better you.
Earlier week I noticed someone had cut a large square out of the concrete street in one area near the entrance of the subdivision. This area had been prioritized as the first problem area to focus on. The section was marked off with safety cones and construction tape. The cracked concrete had been extracted along and the dirt below exposed.
As Bear and I surveyed the progress that morning I affirmed the decision. While not the largest problem area to repair, the section is nearest the entrance and provides the most exposure to anyone entering or passing the subdivision.
Later in the week I noticed a hole now had a new layer of crushed rock at the base. The markings showed the rock had been tamped down to create a solid new foundation. While observing the progress I again recognized the similarities with self-help.
As a trained PSYCH-K® facilitator, I work with individuals interested in transforming their personal anxieties, fears, limiting beliefs and self-doubts.
To do so, we use a variety of approaches to re-programming the subconscious mind. During the process, the individual is able to create a more favorable memory or perspective of a situation to better align with the current aspirations, desires and goals.
The result is a new foundation at the subconscious level, just like the new crushed rock on road project.
I’m anxious to see what comes next for the street process. Which area of the road will be the next priority? I’m also interested in seeing if the repair efforts will identify or lead to other areas that need to be addressed.
In PSYCH-K® we often find working on one belief-area will expose other subconscious limiting beliefs or self-doubts that had not been previously recognized. The result provides an affirmation or explanation for a pattern of behavior such as, “I didn’t realize it but I guess I just always feel that way in those situations….”.
Sometimes these are the unknowns, learned behaviors buried deep in the subconscious that affect how we act, feel, react or think. Like the small cracks in the street, they didn’t receive the orange paint but may have been noticed or included on the inventory sheet to monitor or address at a later time.
Like I said, I’m anxious to see how the street project progresses. But in the meantime, I think I’ll revisit my inventory list to see what additional cracks I can work on to continue to improve my personal foundation.
