If you’re a senior, like me; retired or about to retire, or even just trying to figure out what’s next in life, then this blog is for you.
I really enjoy talking with fellow seniors; hearing their personal stories filled with accomplishments, aspirations, desires, goals, heartaches, struggles, and more. After all, these are the ingredients of a life well-lived.
We are all so busy, trying to build a successful career, tend to our love ones, and just trying manage through the day-to-day along the way. And then comes the time, in what seems like the blink of an eye, the kids are grown, the house is empty, and the career comes to an end.
For some, retirement can be an overwhelming and stressful experience. And I’m not talking about the financial component of retire, I’m speaking about the “what next” aspect of retirement.
More often than not, when I meet someone new within the senior age group, they usually describe themselves as a retired-something; A retired-teacher, a retired-engineer, or a retired-executive, etc.
And that’s great, it’s a perfect way to quickly allow someone to connect.
And it’s something to be proud of; after all, that career usually represents a huge portion of their younger years. And it’s also what provided the means necessary to support their family.
Yet at the same time, the career is really just one role they played within their life, and for a certain period of time. And, while it may have served them well for that period of their life, it doesn’t necessarily define who they really are, or who they want to be.
It may not speak to their personal passion or purpose. And this is where the challenge comes in for many seniors. The career ends, and we’ve been so busy focusing on work and supporting others, we’ve forgotten to take care of ourself.
We’ve lost our personal passion and purpose.
For many, the transitional period into retirement can cause anxiety, depression, and stress. And if not addressed, it can lead to both physical and mental health issues.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, the average life expectancy in the US is around 77yrs of age, down slightly in the past couple years most likely due to COVID. And the life expectancy is slightly higher for individuals that remain physically and mentally healthy.
If you’re retired or about to retire in the near future, you’re not done! You have plenty of great years ahead of you!
Now, I’m not suggesting you run out and get another 40 hour a week job, but what I am suggesting is to take time to really think about your passions, and your purpose.
These are your golden years, they should be some of the best years of your life! What do you really want to do to fulfil your dreams, your passion and purpose?
What would you do if you could put aside your anxieties, fears, limiting beliefs and self-doubts? What are your personal aspirations, desires, and goals? What are the things that you couldn’t do or couldn’t risk doing when you had other responsibilities in life.
I recently reconnected with a former co-worker and friend. He told me he had co-wrote and published a book.
Then with a smile he added, “I’m an author.“
Clearly, it was deeply meaningful to him. Something he had always wanted to do.
For me, I started Self-Sovereignty. After many years of leading large-scale, complex IT integrations and implementations I stepped down from managing teams to allow more time to focus on my passions; studying the subconscious mind and helping others learn how to overcome negative programming.
“I have more purpose when I use my passions and skills to help others.”
You too have so much more to offer!
Maybe it’s time to start that photography business or bake shop, or sing a solo in the church choir. And don’t for a minute worry about what anyone else thinks.
But more importantly, don’t let your personal anxieties, fears, limiting beliefs or self-doubts hold you back from achieving your dreams. You can accomplish anything you want; you just have to change your subconscious mindset to better align with aspirations, desires, and goals.
As a PSYCH-K facilitator I assist individuals to achieve a subconscious mindset transformation by guiding them through a set of defined, science-based protocols. The process allows an individual to realize, at the subconscious level, a future expression in the current state. This simple, non-invasive process can transform a current situation, such as a specific fear, anxiety, limiting belief or self-doubt, to a “what do you what instead” realization embedded deep within the subconscious.
Think of it as repainting a room. The walls are dark and dreary, but with the right primer you can paint over the walls to change the color to brighten the tone and mood of the room. And it doesn’t matter who painted the room or why they picked the color, the important thing is “what do you want instead?”
What do you need to change within your current subconscious mindset or programming, to better align with your current aspirations, desires and goals.
